Salt Water System

We have installed a state of the art salt chlorinator system, imported from Australia, for sanitizing the pool water.

The chemical formula for salt is NaCl i.e.sodium chloride. The method by which a salt-chlorine generator works is that the water passes through a chamber within which there are titanium plates. An electric current is applied to the plates create a process of electrolysis.

This electrolysis splits the sodium and chloride and produces hypochlorous acid (HClO) and sodium hypochlorite (NaClO). This form of chlorine does not have the normal byproducts found with other types of chlorine which result in red eyes, strong odor, itchy skin and so on. After about two hours of exposure to UV sunlight, the sodium and chloride recombine which is why the water in our pool always tastes a little bit salty.

For most of the year, the salt water system means we avoid using other chemicals or additives to keep the pool water clean and clear.  During prolonged periods of very hot weather and usually at the start of the rainy season, however, it is occasionally necessary to treat the pool with a copper based algaecide.  This prevents the pool water from turning green as a result of the rapid growth of algae spores, carried by the winds and rain. We add algaecide to the pool overnight to ensure it is thoroughly diluted before swimmers use the pool.  If this does not kill the algae, we very occasionally have to “shock” the water with a high concentration of commercially produced chlorine powder.

A notice at reception advises when we add commercially manufactured chlorine or copper-based algaecides to the pool.

Main Pool dimensions and Children’s Pools

The main rectangular pool is 25 meters long and 16 meters wide.  At the shallow end the depth is 1 meter and at the deep end it is 1.7 meters – ideal for lap swimming

The depth of the two children’s pools are 70 cms in the junior pool and 30 cms in the toddlers’ pool.  Next to the children’s pools is a Thai sala – a large open pavilion providing shelter from the sun – with seating and loungers.

Changing Rooms, Showers and Toilets

Separate Ladies and Gents changing rooms, shower cubicles and toilets are provided. Additionally, there are three outdoor showers for use before entering and leaving the pool.
A separate family changing room is also available for parents with young children.  In some cultures it is perfectly normal to find young boys in the Ladies’ changing room with their mothers, and young girls in the Men’s changing rooms with their fathers.  In other cultures, however, this is taboo.  We have visitors from all over the world and parents with young children should use the family room for changing and showering their offspring.

Wheelchair Friendly

Our pools are “wheelchair friendly” with ramps from the car park to the main entrance.  We have a specially designed toilet and shower.  This room also doubles as our Family Changing Room.

Access to the main pool is via a series of shallow steps and handrails. Staff are on hand to help if necessary

Responsibility for Pool Safety
We do not have life guards on duty

Please note we are a private swim club, run as a resort, and not a public pool.  Although our pool staff are trained in life-saving techniques, we do not employ professional life guards to keep constant vigilance of pool activity.

All visitors to the pool are responsible for their own safety and use the pools at their own risk. Parents, in particular, must make it their business to keep an eye on their children and know where they are, and what they are doing, at all times when visiting the pool, and ensure there is one responsible adult for every two children accompanying them to the pool. No child or young teenager is allowed entry to the pool without an accompanying adult.
